I have just emailed the League Secretaries and winning teams (where I have them) the info for the Champions League.
Elgin - Harbour Inn - CONFIRMED Forres - Abbey Inn - CONFIRMED Keith - Ploo B - CONFIRMED Buckie - Northern Lights A - CONFIRMED Buckie Ladies - Northern Lights - CONFIRMED Lossie - Golf Club
Could be a good one to go and watch and get behind the lads!
Basically,
The league winners from Elgin, Keith, Forres, Lossie, Buckie & Buckie Ladies are all invited to enter the Champions League at the Bowl 2000 on May 26th.
Should there be a lack of interest from Buckie and Lossiemouth, we may consider inviting the runners up from Elgin, Keith and Forres to make it more of a competition.
Format will be a league stage with everyone playing everyone, then the top two will play off for the title.
The comp will be played to World Rules as the Elgin, Keith and Forres lads are all familiar with them.
6 Player (minimum) teams, each player may play 1x singles and 1x doubles per match. Two tables will be used for each match.
3 x normal doubles 3 x singles 3 x scotch doubles 3 x singles
There will be trophies for the winning teams, small entry fee of £15 per team (£2.50 per player) to cover costs of trophies.
All I'll ask is that teams stick to the spirit of sport and don't field ringers! This is the only competition we have for proper pub teams so teams might as well enjoy it and win fairly!
Thanks to Ian McLennan (Seaforth Club) for coming up with the idea!
Good luck to everyone,
Brad.

Couple of things Brad.... Why is it now maybe teams who finish second etc, is that not taking "the gloss" off the competition??? Secondly, if you are playing the schedule above can we then not get a 6 all draw??? Is this just a meaningless change for the sake of it ?? Its a long enough day potentially.. Im sure others will have different views however.

Shouldn't be too long Ben, so far only Lossie, Keith and Forres have shown interest. Buckie Ladies might play but doubtful if the men will. Keith aren't sure although the second place team probably will if they don't. Can't see lossie playing but have sent them the details again.
Second place was just an idea to save three teams meeting up for a few hours. If there's strong objections then that's not a problem mate!
The 6-6 draw possibility is just for the group stage. Can't see it lasting more than a few hours even if we do get a good turnout. Are you's up for it mate?

Two tables will be used for each match. 3 x normal doubles 3 x singles 3 x scotch doubles 3 x singles Brad, does this mean if you play a normal dubles match, you cant play the scotch? Excuse my ignorance but thats how it reads to me?? Agree with Ben - if you start opening the comp to runners up, or even further down the league it devalues the competition. Surely you should earn the right to play in this? Would also maybe suggest a slightly later start, one / two, if entries are only potentially six? Just my thoughts.

No problem, was only a suggestion to open it up to runners ups.... Obviously the fearsome Tennants will walk it Will see how many teams enter then take it from there, will obviously consult all Captains when sorted. Keith entering a team. Are you's in aye? Yep, can only play either normal or scotch in each match, you read it correctly.

Cool. so there are 3x scotch doubles first, (6 players required) 3 X singles Next, 3 x normal doubles.....which brings me to my point, if you cant play both, do u need an additional 6 players?
Apologies if I'm being a clown, but surely this cant be right? Its s little early after all!

Ha ha, Cormie you're quite right!
Yes, of course it takes six players to play 3 doubles, what I meant to write was each player plays in both but can only play one normal doubles and one scotch doubles... Confused myself there!
Northern Lights (Buckie Men) have confirmed their entry.

I read the post over and over in my head before posting incase i made myself look like a spork, so what your saying is you CANT play with the same person twice? So in effect there is two different sets of doubles?

Magic, both Buckie teams conformed and Keith are defo sending a team. League Champs may not be going but Ploo B (Runners Up) will take their place. Only Lossie who don't seem fussed. If anyone has Barney's number can they text/Pm me it as haven't managed to speak to him directly.

What is up with the Lossie League? Are they scared to mix it with the rest of the region?
There is obviously some decent players who have made themselves known in Elgin like woody, Steve Ingram, Scotty little, Dave Main etc so what is the problem? They don't like the rules is that it? Too difficult for them to understand? Is it the fear of getting whooped?
Whilst we are on the subject, how big is the lossie league in terms of teams? What rules do they play? Who are the best players in that league?

There's about a dozen teams I think mate, the Golf Club are the best team but with the exception of Dave Main none of them are interested in playing outside Lossie. Not sure they like the rules either as some of the team went from the Elgin league to Lossie when we changed rules.
Rules = Lossie Rules..... lol! 2 carry on, free ball, pick up white, combination shot, no cushion rule.

What about if the other leagues agreed to give them a start say +2 or +3?

Nah they just arent interested! Besides, they'd probably give most teams a run for their money, it's not an ability issue, it's just that theyre simply not interested unfortunately.

Just not interested sounds like a cover. I figure they don't have the minerals. Shame.

But on a serious note, they've got there thing there, been set in stone for like yonks, its all good banter so fair play to them. I used to play myself sometimes when i was home from uni and the H&I didnt have a team. Had a few good sesh's through there.
The rule change is a massive issue, and the thought of any change, regardless in size, is a frightening prospect. Played one of my mates last year in a frame of WR, i deliberatly fouled on my third shot, honetly thought he was going to wrap his cue round my puss. Its alien to them.

No I can sympathise a bit with the alien concept of a DF for about 2 maybe 3 frames then I, and the majority of us blessed with a bit of savvy, realised how to use this to advantage. Thinking is a wonderful boon.

Just thought there was a rule in the village that the Station had to field all burghead players and the harbour the opposite. Is this not the case? I maybe picked it up wrong. If so it has worked significantly to your advantage and not to theirs I would say.
No offence intended btw!

hahahahah think the Harbour inns youth system maybe not up to scratch at moment something that may need looked at in the future eh andrew Indeed Ricardo! Seems we've been batting for the wrong team all these years! Curiously, the issue of where the players in our team are "fae" was never really raised when we were first division cannon fodder. This season has seen a marked change......mmmh. Still, big bad us for having the audacity for wanting to play pool with our mates LOL and more so for winning! Can't be having none of that, can we?
