So what exactly happened with the 'B' team ?
Teams not turning up and opponents being awarded 8-0 walkovers ??

Yes mate.
They were depending on Aberdeen A (one of the favourites) to beat Borders in the final game on Sunday morning but Aberdeen didn't turn up (they were already through.)
Borders got the 8-0 which bumped Elgin B out the top four. Two other teams also didn't turn up for the Sunday morning session but it didn't affect the leagues. We (C team) turned up for our Sunday game but opponents couldn't be bothered as they were already guaranteed bottom place. Really annoying for all involved, especially the B team who played excellently and all had a few quid riding on themselves to reach the semis.
Adam, Martin, myself and the Borders captain all requested that Aberdeen A be kicked out but the organisers decided to award them a cash fine and take no further action other than making sure there'll be proper tournament rules next year.

On the face of it they should have been kicked out and I would argue banned from playing in next years event. None of my business but I would certainly have been pretty p***ed off if I had spent money and given up a whole weekend to be knocked out in that fashion no matter how good the social aspect was. It stinks !! And its a conspiracy !!

Brad, you couldn't be more correct in what you say regarding Adam. He is a credit to our region and without his input I would doubt that things would even get off the ground. He is directing pool so well in our region and I can only see things 'with his help and leadership' get bigger and better for us all in the future. The quality of the players that we have playing in the league is clear for all to see and was evident down in Burntisland over the weekend. I for one would ask Adam to stay on as Chairman and carry on 'with our help' to bring pool in the region to a whole new level and hopefully one day have a few International players, Scottish singles champion/s and a team capable of winning the interleague.
It is a shame that a team such as Aberdeen A 'which is full of class international players' failing to turn up for their match on the Sunday morning. It was not important to them as they had already qualified for the next stage but to us it meant a place in the last 16 and every chance of progressing further. The Aberdeen team should have led by example but on this occasion fell well short - some advert for the SEPF - would you really want to play for your country and be apart of all that crap? All in all I think the whole issue was handled disgarcefully by the SEPF and hope lessons have been learnt and policies/rules will be put in place for ALL future competitions to avoid any teams facing the same dissapointment as we had to endure. Sort it out SEPF!!!!!
Brad & Adam - you're doing a great job, your enthusiasm and passion is second to none, glad we have you guys running the show for us.
Elgin can hold thier heads up high.

That was the opinion of quite a lot of people in the hall Raymond. One player even suggested that Aberdeen could potentially have missed the game because they knew they could put out a decent team by doing so. Aberdeen were booed on for their second round game which they lost anyway.
Some of the lads are wanting to know where the cash from the fines are going as they feel completely cheated and wouldn't mind their money back.

And its a conspiracy !! LOL!! And lets not even start talking about the footie refs as Dad (Martin) will go mental... Lads, your comments of support are most welcome. Anyone that knows me is aware that I am all about fair play and this has been a hard one to take. Also, can't believe noone has been moaning about the caravans of death...

Remorse, guilt perhaps ?

Ha ha, I put a complaint in about mine and have emailed them today asking for some sort of refund. No hot water and mine & Garey's bedroom floors were absolutely soaking. And I don't mean damp, I mean actual standing water over 95% of the room!
Thanks for your comments Woody.
The SEPF has been through a lot in the last few years and the guys running it now are trying to turn it round. People like Adam Macleod, Mike Macdonald, John Murray, etc, are a credit to the game and I take my hat off to them for all the hard work they put in behind the scenes. With the amount of effort these guys put in, the Federation can only improve, however it is inevitable that there will be problems along the way.
George Harwood, president of the WEPF, who was present yesterday said that they also don't have rules regarding teams not turning up for games in the English Interleagues or International tournaments because it simply wouldn't happen!
I would also like to think that the Aberdeen League will make sure their representatives will not act in this way in future as it reflects very badly on what is quite clearly a top class league full of decent folk.

Adam,
I totally agree with your comments regarding the caravans that all Elgin teams were allocated - They were crap!
Indeed, I'm pretty sure that under current residential laws they were not even fit for human occupation. No hot water in ours all weekend!
I however spoke to quite a few lads from many of the other teams at the event and it seems that they all had very good caravans - the word shafted springs to mind!
All teams should have the same standard of accomodation available to them at the event ( as we are all paying the same entry money). As it was, many teams were in 4/5 star caravans, which are very good/excellent. Others however were in the 2 star caravans, which are very poor. If this can't be sorted out e.g. due to a lack of 4/5 star caravans being available on-site, then I would ask whether the SEPF should not be looking for another suitable venue elsewhere to hold the event
I intend to log into the Aberdeen site at some point this week and send Derek Ahern a personal message regarding many of the issues that require to be addressed as far as i am concerned. These include:-
1) Accomodation at the event 2) Tournament schedule timings 3) Tounament rules-regarding the situation with ElginB/AberdeenA
Do you know if the Styx teams stay on-site during the compitition?

Just been on the SPA website to check how their Super 15 event went at Craig Tara.
Seems that they also had some serious issues surrouding their accomodation and venue!

I do know that a few of the styx players were definately staying at petycur cant speak for the whole team for sure though. As i said the other day i believe it comes as a package, if u wanna play u have to stay at their accomodation. This is the same for European championships every year you can only play if you stay at the venue wether u live accross the road or not, venue makes more money as does the organisers who may be charging above normal price to profit a little themselves. I think the main problem with sheduling/timings was that it was someone new doing the top table role. John a nice guy but maybe inexperienced. Shouldnt an experienced member of the sepf be running the years biggest event?

I'd have thought the biggest problem with timings was having the Sunday morning session at all. Either play it on the Sat night or kick off earlier on the Friday and we wouldn't have found ourselves in the situation we did.

Sunday sessions are always played and never usually a problem. This year we started on the friday , maybe due to having extra teams but it was without friday flyers and saturday singles events. I think the problem was giving only an hour between the earlier sessions, maybe the mentality was players getting there earlt and having no delay in between sessions but making us wait ages to do so, this doesnt explain some sessions being 3 hours late!!! We didnt even make it to town on Sat night because we didnt finish giving the Aberdeen lot lessons until after half midnight haha

It was a really good weekend until the point on Sunday the aberdeen team made a very poor decision not to turn up for there final group game. The pool in our area is in the best position as I've ever seen and the credit has to go to Adam( conspiracy theory )Macleod for a very well organised tour and compee at Inverness and Brad for his enthuseism in the running of our League, it can only make improvement in every aspect of our game of all of us pool players in our area and long may it continue. Our junior tour has also been a big sucess and it's been great to see so many kids getting pure enjoyment out of playing SEPF rules and helping them understand them because they are our future stars hopefully, which I think made the incident on Sunday even worse because some of the team are our Scottish International representitives who should be leading by example and the choice they made does nothing but do harm to our sport. This new rule should ensure what happened will never happen again. Our caravans were shocking and disapointing to here that we seem to have got a raw deal.

hi all for those who do not know me im mike mcdonald. i am the general/mens team manager of the SEPF. i was present this weekend helping to run the interleague and as Adam and Brad can tell you was present at the meeting to try and sort out this shambles. i only got involved again this year after 8 years out but started the SEPF back in 96. in the past as far as i am aware this has never happened and i can assure you it wont happen again because the rules will be changed to make sure. when derek, george and i sat down and talked it through we spoke to all parties, i for one would have been happy to see Aberdeen excluded and made that very clear to them and Adam and Brad. i must make you aware however that there was 4 teams that never turned up on the sunday not just Aberdeen and although they could not have qualified the ruling was made for all. each of these teams will be fined £400 and if they do not pay it (we have all the names) will be excluded from all future interleague events. i will not even attempt to gloss over what was a mistake on the SEPFs part by not having the rule in place i can only apologise. other issues i see you have raised about caravans are noted and we have spoken to the park. i have also asked the park who allocated the caravans and have been told it was the park the SEPF only requested the amount. going forward if you guys have issues come and see me and i WILL get it fixed. forgot to mention that no decision has been made about where the fine money will go but i would hope that a big chunk would go to region 4 for lets say youth development, however its not my shout but i will push for it. lastly i spoke to the Aberdeen lads myself and they were gutted at what they had done and also spoke to martin campbell who has assured me that the matter is not finished at league level. if i can help in any way please feel free to contact me. ps it was nice to see you guys and hope to meet you all again mike mcdonald

This new rule should ensure what happened will never happen again. Our caravans were shocking and disapointing to here that we seem to have got a raw deal. In answer to a few of the points raised on this thread I would like to highlight the following - The caravans are alloctaed by the Holiday Park and not by the SEPF, if there were issues with certain vans then these should have been brought to the attention of the Manager at the park at the time. The rule for any team not turning up/being late for a match at the correct time is they are docked one frame per table per every 5 minutes. After 20 mins they have lost 8-0 This rule was adhered to for all teams that didn't turn up. There were 5 teams that did not turn up on the Sunday morning, 3 of these teams results affected who qualified from the group stages yet everyone is having a go at Aberdeen A. Dont get me wrong I am not condoning anything here but they are not the only villians of the peace. The match timings were very tight to say the least and lessons should be learned, it does not help however when many of the matches run to 8-7 and teams involved take 15mins between frames. The SEPF suggested starting earlier on the Friday but everyone moaned, they also suggested playing all the group stages to a finish on Saturday night but everyone wanted a night out on the town. All of the above points are not the fault of the SEPF and people should remember this. Where I blame the SEPF is in the general running of the competition and the lack of support from 3 out of the 4 regions. I went down as a player this weekend as I have nothing to do with the SEPF. However when I arrived it was apparent to everyone that the only person running the top table was big John from region 4. I sat at the top table for two days until I eventually gave up on the Sunday morning. To me this is an absolute joke, all the hard work done before the event was spoiled by a lack of organistion on the day. How hard is it for 1 person from each region to spend an hour in every four at the top table. Were they even asked ?? The Chairman needs to step back and take a good look at this competition and learn from it, the SEPF say they have made great improvements this year but after this past weekend I dont know if there has been much change at all.............at least they have paid the bill

Not sure about this, as it was the SEPF who arranged the deal and took money for it. Not sure if there would have been anyone from the SEPF capable of dealing with a problem of this nature though, it may have had to be sorted by a dependable player eh?! The rule for any team not turning up/being late for a match at the correct time is they are docked one frame per table per every 5 minutes. After 20 mins they have lost 8-0 This rule was adhered to for all teams that didn't turn up. Dont get me wrong I am not condoning anything here but they are not the only villians of the peace. We are aware of this Lindsay and so is everyone else. Whilst they are not the only ones, as mentioned in previous posts by EDPL members, they are certainly worthy of being named and shamed just in case there were to be a repeat performance. Which will never happen with those concerned I’m sure…The match timings were very tight to say the least and lessons should be learned, it does not help however when many of the matches run to 8-7 and teams involved take 15mins between frames. This is a worthy point to make. We left Elgin at 0650 on the the Friday morning and played our last frame after 0100. Tough in the extreme on our stamina. Especially the older lads ken. The SEPF suggested starting earlier on the Friday but everyone moaned, they also suggested playing all the group stages to a finish on Saturday night but everyone wanted a night out on the town. Totally agree Lindsay, not sure what would have happened if you hadn't stepped up. Surely we are not complaining about communication again…The Chairman needs to step back and take a good look at this competition and learn from it, the SEPF say they have made great improvements this year but after this past weekend I dont know if there has been much change at all.............at least they have paid the bill. Agreed. Unfortunately, some teams have still been ripped aff in process though...

Staffe - Don't think for one moment that we are that stupid!
I can confirm that as far as our caravan was concerned it was the boiler firing mechanism that was the problem- not working!
Another caravan had water sailing all over the floor every time the guys flushed the toilet.
This should not happen as all caravans should be checked by Pettycur prior to habitation by the incoming occupants.
It is easy for you to say that sitting in your 4/5 star caravan! You may have had a totally different view on the matter if you had been in our caravan. However I'm sure you will be more than happy to give up your 4/5 star next year, in place of a 2-star! NOT!!

Lindsay, as a team captain I was certainly not asked whether we would like to have played our final game on saturday night instead of Sunday.
Well done for stepping up and helping out on the top table, I just assumed you were meant to be there! Perhaps as you say, for tournaments of this size it would be a very sensible idea to have officials from all four regions actively running events in future. This would also have quashed any 'conspiracy' comments following the committee's decision.
The next SEPF meeting should be interesting anyway...

Also, the only reason Aberdeen A are coming under fire more than anyone else is simply becauseit was an Elgin side they shafted by not playing.
Tayside Uni B didn't make their game against us (Elgin C) and even though we were both already out of the tournament it still pissed us off as we got up early and fancied a game of pool (which is after all what the weekend was about.)

Alan for your information I slept on the floor for 2 nights, sorry I should re phrase that I didn't get any sleep on the floor for 2 nights. Ask Brad, he was in our caravan all night on the Saturday, in my bedroom ie the living room. So yes in answer to your question I would swap my 4 star floor for a 2 star bed. The difference between us mate is that because I was running after guys like you all weekend I didnt have tim to SIT any F...ing where. I dont want thanks but dont take the piss. Either that or step up to the plate and do something about it yourself. I will gladly swap my weekend for yours mate any day. Remember I am only a pool player like the rest of you I have nothing to do with the SEPF

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but wanted to let everyone involved with the Interleague fiasco know that Elgin's proposal to stop this happening again was unanimously voted through at yesterday's SEPF AGM.
Something to the effect of: Any team failing to make a fixture in any SEPF tournament, without good reason, will be expelled from the competition and may face disciplinary action.
I know it's too late for last year's interleague, but at least it's changed and won't happen again. Next time, the offenders will be kicked out and all their games will be voided.
