Congratulations to Ben Royan who on Saturday became the Moray County Champion for 2014 when he defeated Alan 'Bondies' Bonnyman 6-4 in the final of tour Event 6 at Elgin's Pinz Bowling. Ben has been one of the most consistent players in the tour's five year history and thoroughly deserves to finally claim a tour win and as an extra bonus the Moray County Trophy...Well Done Ben !
The event attracted a healthy entry of 30 of the area's top players. A full run down of the results are listed below but it was good to see some of the tours younger players playing well and getting to the latter stages of the tournament. Lhanbryde lad Josh Clark had an excellent 4-1 win over Tour 4 winner Scott Campbell. Kyle Laing did well to reach the quarter finals where he was beaten by his team-mate Martin Hawxwell who had a great run to the semi's defeating Tony McCallion along the way.
Euan Devine, George Taylor and Mark Bell all had a good run to the quarters where they were beaten by 'Bondies', Andrew Cormie and Ben Royan respectively. In the Semi finals Bondies defeated Martin Hawxwell and Ben Royan won through against Andrew Cormie.
The final saw Ben Royan race into a 4-1 lead, Bondies fought well to narrow the gap to 4-3 and then again to 5-4, however Ben was determined not to let the title slip and came out on top of a tactical battle in the last frame to claim a 6-4 win and the the title of 'Moray County Champion'.
This event brings the Region 4 tour 2014 to a close and the final special mention has to go to the man we all know as Bondies who has surely secured the position of overall tour winner being a total of 69 points ahead of his nearest rivals with only this month's Scottish Singles points to be added (If anyone from region 4 enters) . Bondies has had a fantastic record on the tour this year with 2 tour wins, 1 runner up, 1 semi final, 1 quarter final and last 16.
So a big Well Done to Bondies on a fantastic season.
Speaking of the Scottish Singles (all sections with exception of Seniors), they will be held in Styx, Kirkcaldy on 25/26th October. If you would like to enter or get further details please go to the main SEPF Facebook page or ask me and I will do my best to help.
It only remains for me to say thank you to Pinz, The Grand Central and The Chieftain for hosting our events this year, thank you also to everyone who has helped with running the tour and last but not least a big thank you to each and every one of the 52 players who have played over the course of the year....particularly the lads and lasses who keep turning up knowing full well they are going to be 'up against it' but do so with enthusiasm and enjoy their day out.
