Thanks for that Adam, comin from someone who has been there before means alot. i must say the standard of tables really made a difference to my game. i felt i gained confidence from each frame and pulled out some good clearances when i had to.Certainly brought out my best pool.Pity the tables not as good in Elgin.I think i have to give ma captain a wee mention, had a wee word with me couple of weeks ago. He'll know what i mean !!Hopefully i'll keep ma place for wednesday!!

hi all mike mcdonald SEPF general and mens team manager here, having read your posts just thought i would come on with a few pointers. but firstly can i just say a huge congratulations to you all what a performance to have taken so many places. you are a credit to region4 and just shows what can be done. i have been in this position before having managed the team from 1996 to 2001 and have the expierence to get us back where we should be ie the top. i have worked in the past and played along side most of our squad ie pat, daz, ian, derek, martin, barry, and know thier strenghs and weekness. this year when approached and asked to consider the job i attended the worlds so i could have a look at the new crop, so have seen alan, scott, shaun all play. i know adam has played for SCOTLAND before so that speaks for its self. this does not in any way suggest the guys who ive yet to see will not feature far from it in fact. this might sound daft but i need to use the euros as an opportunity to see the players wether in the team or in the singles event to build our team for the worlds and what looks ever more likely the home internationals in SCOTLAND. as adam says i watch all sites and ranking lists to keep me updated with current form. at championships you will see me watch all games in rotation and i will always be fair. i cant wait to see us all in MALTA showing the rest how good we are. i hope this post helps with you understanding me and my methods. if i can answer any questions phone, email, me and i will get back to you yours in sport mike mcdonald

i must say the standard of tables really made a difference to my game. I cannot agree with this statement more. It is so important to be able to practice on quality tables . The sooner Elgin gets a dedicated pool hall the better! Aberdeen, Fraserburgh and Inverness will always have an advantage over us in the North because they have quality tables in quality venues that players can practice on. Surely someone will see a business opportunity here...

There is the new business park at edgar rd in elgin.there is umpteen units there empty.thats the only place i can think of.could easily hold a number of tables in one of those.I know someone who is very business minded and i definateley will be giving it a mention to him .he is giving serious thought to possibly sponsoring me an air ticket to malta.I'm sure if he is not interested he would know people that might. certainly worth trying.I couldn't see how it would not be succesful.

What about the old Newmarket pub off the High Street? It's not exactly huge but with a bit of re-arrangment I'm sure you could squeeze a few table in?
Geordie at Flanagan's has mentioned to me in the past about the possibility of fitting four tables upstairs if he scrapped the stage but I think he decided against it.
Keep me in touch with what your friend says Adam, I'd be very interested in this!

Although it would be great to have a dedicated pool hall in Elgin, I think it would be difficult to set-up as a new venture, particularly at a time where there is much uncertainty in the area regarding the air bases etc. Also the rent & rates for a city centre building, or even one of those units at Edgar Rd would be extremely high. However if you look at the map on Rileys web site they have clubs in close proximity to each other in the big cities and built up areas, so bearing in mind the mileage between their Inverness and Aberdeen clubs it might be something they would consider - I feel it would need someone like them to make it work. Either that or someone with pots of cash which they would be willing to gamble.
Just a thought where is the nearest 9-ball table to Elgin ? Its definitly an opportunity for someone to at least consider !

It's up a tiny close off the High Street which I think has a padlocked gate at the front. Might be wrong though.
I'll see if I can find something out though. If any of the Flanagans, White Horse or other City Centre teams read this before tonight's games, head up and have a look eh!

What happened to the old Venue building(showing my age) which later became the Jailhouse which was up the same close as the Newmarket ? I know there was a fire years ago but did it ever open again ? It was a decent sized building.
