Ok, this is only a suggestion which may (or may not) encourage some new players/teams into the league.
Basically my idea is for a 'relaxed' summer league. When I say relaxed I mean creating a situation where teams can actually enjoy a night out playing pool. Maybe introducing ideas like Scotch doubles, allowing teams to play with 4 or 5 players without being penalized, maybe incorporating a gallon into the actual game - anything which would make things a bit different and increase the average players enjoyment of the night.
We did this in Lhanbryde a couple of years ago and whilst there were only the four local teams, and obviously players went on holiday, played golf or were working etc, we managed to have a decent game every week. the pubs were happy too !! I'm thinking along the lines of 6-8 teams which would give time between beg of May and end of August. I'm not even suggesting you would have to play for your current team - it would all be about getting a game of pool in a more enjoyable enviroment.
I know this wont be to everyones liking and its just an idea but I would be interested to hear any thoughts .

I reckon that would go down well. There's still plenty of folk who play pool on Wednesday's throughout the summer who might be interested in that. In the Bonnie Earl we normally have about 10 guys turn up for a knockabout (normally scotch doubles) throughout the summer.

I totally agree. If enough teams cant be formed then maybe a singles or doubles league? Clubs such as the New Club do these annualy where players can arrange with themselves when and where to play there matches? mayeb round robin etc? A place like the bowling alley im sure wud hold a weekly thing? just a thought?

Perhaps going off what Raymond said on the other thread arranging some sort of summer league/cup for the whole county could be an idea for the summer? I know Adam Macleod has contact details for some of the other leagues. Perhaps we could have local qualifiers where the final few players from each league enter a county cup final for singles/doubles/4 man team. Just an idea but shouldn't be too hard to arrange between us, Lossie, Buckie, Forres, nairn etc...

Would have to be world rules though! May convince some of the other leagues to join the bandwagon!

I like Tony's idea too. The informality of it will be a good thing as people will be free to play their golf or whatever they choose to do and play the pool around it.
Would also be good to see Raymond's idea of bringing in a county championship like they used to with the darts. The summer's long enough to do both, perhaps even using the Elgin singles/doubles, Lossie Masters etc as qualifiers for it.

I have sent out an email with some tentative enquiries to the relevant league secs. I hope we get a response as a Moray County Cup (or whatever) would be great. The Tour is in Keith on 30/10/10 so hopefully we'll drum up interest there. I am ever hopeful that some Buckie players will be there for that too.
I have spoken briefly with Bowl 2000 today and they are happy to be venue for anything we come up with.

I cant see it really happening here but in fife for example most leagues run on different days so most players play in several leagues. If something cud be organised in years to come for leagues that dont want to join with others mayeb changing match days? At Styx there is also a styx league i believe maybe bowl 2000 for example cud hold something like this year round on a different nyt? We cud make this either individual or team?
