Hi Folks, Tour Event 3 has been won in fine style by Keith's Chris 'Boo' Ross who overwhelmed Lossie's Adam Wood 6-2 in the Final at the Chieftain Hotel in Inverness.
The event kicked off promptly at 11.30 with a couple of pre-lim ties, Stuart 'The Machine' Campbell left Martin Hendry in a state of shock after beating him convincingly 4-0. Also on the end of a 4-0 defeat was Lossie Loon 'We Are all' James Duff who was outplayed by Buckie Lass Laura Duncan who produced some great pool to progress to the last 32.
The last 32 produced some great matches, the pick of which must have been 6th placed seed Ben Royan v Chris Ross. Ben raced into a 3-0 lead only for 'Boo' to make a tremendous comeback to win 4-3. Neill Simpson and George Taylor from buckie renewed their recent rivalry with Neill claiming the spoils on this occasion with a 4-1 win. There were several other 7 frame thrillers but the pick of the bunch was probably Mark Bell's epic encounter with Stuart Campbell. 'The Machine' was obviously well oiled as he ground out a well earned victory. Meanwhile Elgin youngster Kyle Laing pulled off a fantastic victory over Keith fashion icon Raymond 'Trendy' Duguid.
The last 16 saw some quality ties. A shock first of all as multiple event winner Neill Simpson tasted defeat in Inverness for the first time ina tour event, crashing out to Keith man Andy Legge. Kylr Laings day came to an end with a 4-2 defeat to Adam Wood. Alan 'Bondies' Bonnyman showed gave no quarter to his Interleague captain Andrew Cormie by dishing out a 4-1 defeat. Raymond Mackenzie won through 4-0 against Allan ' Bono' Bonnyman in a match which the Elgin veteran could easily have been 3-0 up in. A superb display of pool from Stuart Campbell brought event 2 winner Teddy Smith's event to a close 4-1. Chris Ross began to click into gear with a 4-0 victory over Jamie McKnockiter. 2 close ties completed the round with James Bonnyman and Graham Scales winning 4-3 against Bob Laughlan and Richard Mackenzie respectively.
Into the 1/4s and Andy Legge met his match losing out 4-2 to Adam Wood. A tremendous tie between Bondies Bonnyman and Raymond Mackenzie went all the way to 3-3. Mackenzie broke and cleared to his last red only to go in-off. Bondies gave him a glimmer of hope by leaving himself a tricky black but showed great composure to slot it home and complete his victory. 'The Machine' and 'Boo' produced and equally great match with the Keith man edging it 4-3. in the last tie of the round Graham Scales defeated James Bonnyman 4-1 to proceed to the semis.
The Semi-finals saw Adam Wood produce a gutsy display to defeat Bondies 5-3. Graham Scales earlier good form seemed to desert him as Chris Ross romped to a 5-2 victory.
For once the final between 'Woody' and 'Boo' got underway in a tremendous atmosphere with over 20 of the original 34 entries still present in the Chieftain enjoying their day. In the end the effects of a long day appeared to catch up with Woody as Chris Ross produced a composed display to claim the win. Well done Boo and hard lines to Woody.
Thanks to everyone who helped out with the draw on Friday night and on the day by keeping the scores updated while I was playing...I wont mention names in case I mistakenly leave someone out but you know who you are. Thanks To Adam Wood for doing the Results and Rankings and forwarding them to the Sepf.
I also have to thank the Chieftain Hotel in Inverness for allowing us to use their establishment for one of our events, I think all that were there would agree it was a an enjoyable day.
Thanks to all who support the tour and hopefully see you all at Event 4, Bowl 2000 on Sat ,June 1st.
Cheers Raymond
