Normally at this time on the day after a tour event I would be writing a report on the previous days play and congratulating the winner, however I feel this has to be said first. We are now 3 events into this year’s tour and all 3 events have been affected by aggressive, unsporting and unacceptable behaviour from a minority of individuals.
In the main this has been out of character for these players but the fact remains that they are responsible for how they behave at these events, whether they have been provoked or not.
This post is not aimed at any specific person however where individual players have been identified as guilty of the above behaviour, they will already have or will be getting a warning letter from Region 4 clearly outlining why they have been written to and what the consequences will be if they continue to let themselves and the tour down. IF YOU ARE IN RECEIPT OF ONE OF THESE LETTERS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER IT A FINAL WARNING AND ANY FURTHER BREACH OF DISCIPLINE WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING EXPELLED FROM THE TOUR.
The following is taken from the SEPF constitution ;
DISCIPLINE
40) The Committee has the right to suspend, fine, expel, or otherwise discipline; any player or team who breaches tournament or constitutional rules or is DEEMED TO HAVE BROUGHT THE SEPF INTO DISRIPUTE BY THEIR ACTIONS
42) Any players or members suspended for a length of time or expelled from a competition will forfeit any monies paid, this includes entry fees and affiliation fees.
The following is taken from the first line of the World Rules sheet ;
A.The Spirit of the Game
The Game is known as Eight-Ball Pool. It is expected that players will always play the game in the true spirit and in a sporting manner. The Referee will take whatever action is necessary to ensure that the spirit and rules of the game are observed.
It is not up to the people who are running these events to have to deal with such problems so I will be asking all the venues to deal with disorderly players at our events in the same manner as they would any other unruly customer. If this means they are ejected from the premises or the police called then so be it.
Many of us give up large chunks of our time to run pool events in this area, I have no problem with that however what I do object to is having to waste valuable time writing letters or posting statements like this due to a minority who should know better.
Can I take this opportunity to thank the majority of players who know how to enjoy there day, whether it be successful on the pool table or not, but be warned, If such behaviour persists at our events I WILL walk away from running the tour….that is not a threat it’s a Promise !
Thanks
Raymond
