Hi all,
Following a game which over ran this week, I've been asked to remind you all of the licensing laws and the pool leagues obligations to licensees.
Please note that in this case neither team Captain had any problems with being told time was up and although the game was played without the clock, I'm informed this had little to do with the game over running. There have however been derogatory remarks on the internet which have prompted a complaint from a licensee.
1) Licensed Premises must stop serving at the time stated on their licence and all customers (including pool players) must leave when asked to do so (usually fifteen minutes after time at the bar). Whether some bars choose to have lock-ins is of no concern to me, licensees who adhere to the law have every right to tell you to leave at closing time.
2) Pool matches being finished on the night are not the concern of the bar staff and any abusive comments or disrespect shown to a bar person who tells you time is up will not be tolerated by the pool league committee.
3) It is the responsibility of both team Captains to ensure that:
a) Team sheets are completed by 8:15
b) The first game of doubles commences at 8:15 sharp
c) Shots are played within 60 seconds
d) Time between frames is kept to a minumum.
On occasion, even if play is fast, games will over run due to the odd tactical marathon and as happened this week if a game cannot be finished on the night, both Captains should liaise to agree a suitable date for the remaining frames to be played and the Secretary kept informed.
To summarise: Bar staff must adhere to licensing laws or they may be held personally liable for breaking the law. Premises may have their licence suspended and individuals prosecuted.
When bar staff tell you time is up, they are simply doing their job.
I hope this is clear,
Thanks,
Brad.
