Hi all,
Does anyone else think it's high time the Elgin Snooker League was resurrected?
I know Woody was involved in committee in the past and there are current singles leagues in the New Club and Ex Servicemans Club.
With plenty snooker players in the pool league (Woody, Macleod, Simmons, Neill, Alan, Dave Hector, Fyffee to name but a few) and plenty decent snooker players currently playing in both clubs, do you think it would be possible to set up a team event using the pubs and venues with tables?
Woody, how did it work in the past? What size teams etc?
I know there are plenty tables when you start looking around. New Club has a few, Ex Servicemans has two, Mansion House, 8 Acres, Golden Pheasant, etc.
As long as it didn't clash with pool or darts nights I could see this being really popular amongst snooker players in Elgin.
Any volunteers for looking into this? I know Simmo at the New Club will probably be keen and maybe Ally Macdonald. Shouldn't be too hard to get enough interest for around 8-10 x 5 man teams for a league starting this autumn?

Format was 6 players (6 x singles & 3 x doubles) obviously first to 5. Can't remember when it was last on the go cos I stopped playing for circa 16 years.
I just play for a wee bit of fun now and again and wouldn't be interested personally in taking part in this. Buckie RBL used to be play in the league, very good team which included the one and only 'Shakey'.
Think there were 2 leagues and about 6 teams in each league at the time?
Don't think the interest is there tbh mate ;(

I would be able to field a team in any potential Moray league from Forres Legion. Possibly two teams. I would love playing league snooker again. A far better game than pool every day of the week lol!

And while we are on the subject, I knocked in a 40 with a 6 and a half foot cue last night. So funny...

I agree with Woody, don't think the interest is there at all, would be good though!

Scotty, you can take the "Glasgow Rangers Champions" bit next to your name off now! LOL

Ha ha! Scotty, Woody, I'm not so sure if there isn't the interest, part of the reason I've posted this is because people keep asking me about it! Lol

Spoke to a few boys today brad. General impression is it wouldnt work through the summer as the golf season is short enough if you know what I mean...would be great to get going again though, still think it'll be a big struggle to get going but hope I'm wrong!

Im sure the new club and ex-servicemens club could both contribute 5 man teams to a league, you would just need to establish teams at the other venues. Maybe the problem is not the interest but trying to fit it in with everything else that is on the go. Already darts & pool nights over the winter plus both clubs already run snooker leagues 'in house' over the winter and as scotty says through the summer people tend to do other things (golf).

I think the people with the interest are already members of clubs and play enough in house during the week. I'd be up for this but can't really see it taking off Would be nice for you to prove me wrong tho bud?

Get the numbers/email of the stewards etc who run these clubs and ask them to canvass their members. Either that or get interested members to do it. They need to find out the preferred night and how far interested players would be willing to travel. See what happens after that...

Summer would almost certainly not be a goer for the reasons you's have said, however the erason I made this post was because of the numbers of people who keep asking me as Secretary of the Pool League to organise a snooker league - the fact is< i simply don't have the time so would be looking for willing volunteers to organise it!
Not on about committee members here, I'm sure your established snooker players would do that, just the canvassing of interested people, speaking to venues, etc.
