Hi guys ,
I have just read through all the posts on the rules subject and would like to ask if anyone fancies sitting the refs exam.Having a qualified ref in the area would alleviate a lot of the gray areas so to speak. I am looking for around fifteen to twenty guys ( or gals ) to enable me to get a ref examiner up from the EPRA , I have 9 at the mo so need some more bodies.
contact me , John Hay , Region 1 , or Brad Wight , R4 , for more details
cheers

Whilst on the subject, could we put forward a proposal at our next meeting to have refs from each team to alternate each frame?

Go for it Adam, I know me and Tony have suggested this many times. It was voted on at the AGM 2 years ago and no-one else was interested!
Almost every other league I've played in has had refs:
Two Captains toss a coin, whoever loses refs the first frame, the winner of that frame refs the next frame. Obviously if someone is unfamiliar with the rules or is incapable, someone else does it. I've had to re-rack a couple of frames in the last few years because me and the oppenent couldn't agree on a foul. Whether right or wrong, a ref's decision would prevent this.

Nice one,
Bono has also propsed that the doubles are interspersed amongst the singles games instead of playing all three at once at the start of a match. This could make a massive difference during race to five cup games I feel. Good proposal, let's see how it goes down!
1 Singles 1 2 Doubles 1 3 Singles 2 4 Singles 3 5 Doubles 2 6 Singles 4 7 Singles 5 8 Doubles 3 9 Singles 6 10 Singles 7
Any thoughts? I'm for it but don't get a vote!

Looks like something different, maybe trial it in one of the cups? Must admit I was wrong about getting rid of doubles. It was right to change to scotch doubles, a much better format!

Hmm, personally I don't see the need for continously tinkering with the format we play. Some of the changes have definitly been welcome but I can't see the benefit in shifting the doubles though........what are the the reasons behind this proposal ?
As for referees....all well and good so long as the same people dont end up doing it all night. Plus are players really going to accept that a ref's decision is final ?
Discussion required !

ive played in Ellon league and London leagues and they all use referees. either the home team takes turns for every frame or a player from each team alternate. referees decision is final and we never once had any issues. We should all know the rules by now.

as for mixing doubles with singles, i think this is a silly idea and cant see any reason why it would make things better?

Ha ha, as far as knowing the rules by now goes; In Div One this is pretty much the case. Completely different story in Divs 2, 3 and 4 though. There are still players who have never heard of a foul snooker, players not calling totals then getting upset when you take two shots, lots of layers who think there is a limit to how many DFs you can play, I've had players conceding the frame when they knock the black off the table etc... And some of them class themselves as serious players!

If they dont want to learn the rules then thats there prerogative Brad. Maybe bring it in for the 1st Division until lower divisions get their act together?

That seems fair but what about the cups?

will probably need to keep them the way they are, cant have a ref that doesnt know the rules. youd think after 3 years people would be a bit more clued up.
