Right,
If you're on the set of games which will be pencilled in for 4PM, I'll be putting you on the list of players who should turn up for 2PM. Therefore if your game kicks off anywhere after 4PM and you're not there, you'll be out.
It's effectively 2 hours, 5 minutes late which is unacceptable in anyone's book.
If by some miracle, we get ahead of ourselves, then I'll obviously wait or put on a game of players who are available.
Players who are going to be late due to work have already contacted me to let me know and this is being taken into account. However, I don't want 86 players claiming to be working until 5PM so will be treating it on a case by case basis.
Hope this makes more sense, apologies if I've not been clear.
A list will go up on Friday night telling all players what time they should turn up. It will provide plenty time before your game to complete your payment and affiliation forms, buy a pint, have a piss and go for a smoke!

Good feedback from the rafts of new players on tour I spoke to yesterday. Lots of nice comments made about the venue in particular and the majority of the tables. Big shout out to my fellow Forres/Abbey Inn Kinloss players for coming on board, in particular to Neil Owen getting to the quarters of his first WR comp.
Really enjoyed the final against Pugs who is a top bloke. Never quite went for him in the match.
A special word for Ray Mack too, sorting out the tables etc and to the rest of the new competiton committee. Look forward to the next one.
Cheers,
Adam.

Firstly congratulations To Adam on his win yesterday and to Pugs on reaching the final.
Adam, thanks for the comments but in truth I was only one of several guys who helped out with moving and setting up the final 2 tables, from memory Cammy Spence, Tony McCallion, Kieron Wood, Nathan Garrow, Scott Campbell, Brad who loaned his own table out for the day. (apologies if I have missed anyone out) .
I think the venue was ideal, and a pat on the back should go to them and also Brad, Woody , Maggie etc for their efforts during the day and also prior to the event.
Obviously there were issues with one of the tables, I dont know the reasons for that but it was only reclothed and installed late on Friday night and time was against us. The intention was to have a top quality table.....I think with a bit of tweaking we could have had that. The fact that it is sitting on a sprung dancefloor probably didnt help.
All things considered I think the event was a great success, attracting a good number of new players , looking forward to the next one !
Cheers

Well done Adam and also Pugs.
Ray, the dancefloor is concrete apparently?
The issue with that table was that it hadn't been levelled. I eventually did it myself and it ran very well for the rest of the night.
Unfortunately my weekend was spoiled pretty much from the word go by the attitudes of a select few players. In future, no one whatsoever will play on any of the tables until they have pulled their weight helping level, iron and brush them. Everyone stood by and watched Raymond build the table on Friday night yet as soon as it was up they were playing on it. I was then woken up by a text message demanding that I go down and level off all six tables. I told the individual to meet me there to help and was told that it was my responsibility as organiser to do this.
During the tournament another bone idle individual refused to get off his seat to run downstairs and tell Adam Macleod that he had been called for his game. The reply was, "you're the organiser, you do it." At the time I was playing a game, as was woody.
There were other incidents throughout the day which angered me, including a player who refused to play on the downstairs table even though he hadn't even laid eyes on it never mind played a shot on it.
Not a single one of the organisers and helpers received a penny for providong and running the most succesful tournament we've had to date, we have all given up our free time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to set up tables, create spreadsheets, conduct the draw, run the tournament to a tight schedule then go back today to take the tables down. I think its pretty easy to see why myself and others have felt taken for granted bu the small group of individuals who whinged and moaned all weekend about problems they could have sorted out themselves.
Rant over. Needless to say things will be changing as I will not be putting up with that again and don't see why anyone else should volunteer to be put in that position.
Thanks to Fyffee and co for getting my table back up the road and raymond for getting it their. Woody, Maggie, Nathan and Kieran did a great job with the admin side of things and I'm sure you'll all agree the city Club provided an excellent venue with good service all day.

Since when did the players have to come and level the tables? I was there friday, went to garys dismantled and assembled a table while YOU played pool! I sent you a text in the morning saying ' I take it the tables will be leveled' DEMANDED? Ok Players were given 5 minutes to play their match, who and why had to get Adam? Organise? Woody basically ran the whole show when it wasn't his job too, it affected his mood and definately his performance. And to top it off your behaviour at the end of the night was unnacceptable and with the top table and the guy who run the city club as my witness u don't have a leg to stand on. If u can't handle your booze stay on the water pal. This part is from kev.....you were out of order by claimin I was an a**ehole when ask any1 I'm on of the easiest to get on with.you claimed I done 'nothing' when I don't even have too!I RAN both fliers on friday and helps you level a table.you were a total twat to tony for no reason you only made yourself look an idiot.as tony said woody ran pretty much the lot while you drank and played pool.you done about as much as any average person don't claim you were run off your feet.if it wasn't for woody and maggie the tournie would still be going!I refused downstairs table after playing on a potting green after I was told it was running bad.next time leave the organising to people who know how to spell cheese.

Guys, best not continue this on the website. Not a great advert for the tour. Any problems between folks can be resolved in private.
I've never had to use my moderating powers before!!

Right,
I will take no further part in anything to do with SEPF Region 4.
Kev, Tony, if you seriously think I have done nothing towards running this event, please feel free to attempt it yourself. Absolutely unbelievable. I will not waste another minute of my free time providing pool competitions for people like you.
Brad.

This is ridiculous, instead of focusing on the bumper entry, a brilliant venue and some very good pool we are argueing amongst ourselves about a few very minor glitches.
I for one am sick to the back teeth of seeing folk who stand up and take the responsibilty for things and who give up there free time being slandered and accused of all sorts ..........and this goes back years in the EDPL not just in the present.
Positive lessons can be learned from yesterday , but I believe on the whole the event was a huge success. Without a shadow of doubt a region which boast over 80 entries for a tour event there needs to be more people involved and helping to organize and keep things running smoothly. In fairness maybe we need to physically ask folks if they can help out.
When one person basically does all the background work they become the focal point for complaints and accusations.....i've seen it all happen before and know what the consequences could be.
Lets get a grip now before this goes any further.

So you have no answer at all brad? Exactly! The event was a HUGE success. Excellent venue and some awesome pool played. Tight matches/ upsets, the lot! I'd happily play there every day. I apologise for my little website rant, but Brad, you have a lot to answer for. ADAM MACLEOD - very well done mate. Always the most consistent player and a credit to our region !

I have a lot to answer for? Are you for real? You really need to open your eyes to what people do for you Tony.
Perhaps you would like to try running th next event? And while you're at it try organising the EDPL finals day, the SEPF AGM, the EDPL singles and doubles, the SEPF Scottish Open, the admin behind a squad of 51 players attending the European Championships next week, the paperwork for the World Championships which has to be submitted, etc, etc.
So forgive me if I wasn't prepared to get out of bed early to level off a pool table so Tony McCallion didn't have to.

What people do for me? Elaborate? Run the next event? If it involves securing a venue, may I add , the ONLY venue other than the bowl then no probs. Getting raymond to work his ass off carrying tables up and down stairs, getting woody to make draws/spreadsheets/order of play (basically everything) then no probs I'll run the next one mate. And level a table? Why's that relevant? I seem to recall mt Whyte at the premier league crying hid eyes out over the state of the tables and how the rolls were so bad, may I quote 'tables are rolling off miles mate this isn't good enough' did u fix it? Of course u never cos it wasn't ur job, It is now mate. This will be my last comment on the matter. I have probably been out of line with my comments amd for that I apologise to the EDPL but it seems to be the only way to converse with you.
Odds on macleod winning overall tour again? I'll put 50 on it !

Huge congratulations to Adam MacLeod on winning the first tour event of the season, fantastic all round display of potting and tactics from the most consistant player in our region.
The Elgin City social club proved to be a fantastic venue and I for one would relish playing every tour event there. Fantastic turn out with 83 players players taking part and including quality players from Keith and Forres. We should all rejoice in the sound knowledge that region 4 pool is driving forward and the quality of pool being played gets better and better with each event. It just shows the level of player that we have in region 4 with lots of the favourites getting beat in the early rounds, no longer a case of the 'few' who could win but the 'many'.
On a minor negative note I would like to say that I wasn't forced to help out at the weekend but chose to volunteer my services. I made it hard for myself by running a book at the same time as trying to organise the draw, take affiliation forms/fees etc and tweak the spreadsheet etc etc and it all became a bit mish mash. I think you can only learn from your mistakes and to be quite honest I think with 83 players to organise it ran fairly smooth and not far behind the predicted schedule. As for effecting my performance, possibly to a degree but I knew from my first match that I didn't take my 'A' game with me and just had to dig deep to secure valuable points, basically I wasn't good enough. It was also said (whether in tongue or cheek I don't know) that I had 'thrown' my quarter final match against Andrew in order to make gain with my bookie venture lmao. Just to clear that one up, anyone who knows me well will confirm that I would always try my upmost to win a match/tournament and more so when people/friends have placed bets on me and shown confidence in me. Fair to say I will not be running any book in future events, I'll leave that to others if they wish to do so.
Finally, I would suggest that as a witness to all the antics going on at the top table late on Saturday evening/Sunday morning were the result of too much alcohol, plain and simple. I thought it was an utter disgrace that it happened during the final (it's happened to me before so i know what it feels like), a final between two quality players who after a long day of pool needed anything but people shouting at each other in the background. Susan Collins had a go at myself and Maggie and I quote her saying "top table should have handled things better", we tried are upmost to calm Nathan, Brad and Tony down but it had all gone too far and tempers had got the better of everyone and it all kicked off. What more could Maggie and I have done in that circumstance I ask? Brad is the main guy at these events and I could have hardly asked him to control things when he was one of those arguing. Anyhow, very dissapointed in Susan for spouting off her pish but hey ho that's life, I'll survive.
I have prepared a fantastic spreadsheet which basically does everything, even works out ranking points after the event, hopefully this can be used for every event from now on and improved as we go along. I don't wish to help out anymore with the admin/top table stuff as i don't like conflict etc and just want to enjoy my day out like anyone else, win or lose. I would however be happy to be part of a team helping sorting out the tables, ie level, brush, iron etc as I don't believe one person can do all.
Well done to everyone hope you had a great day, can't wait to try again at the next one ;-)

I don't believe one person can do all. You have hit the nail on the head Adam, one person cannot do it all. As you know there were 20-30 people there on Friday night so there was absolutely no need for it to come down to one persons responsibility. This is not a dig at anyone just an observation. After all many hands make light work ! For our part we maybe needed to be more forthcoming in actually asking folk if they can help out . I am certain they would have all to a man helped out with levelling etc if we had asked. As I said before lessons have to be learned but lets not allow this to overshadow what I assume is the largest ever entry for an SEPF tour event anywhere in Scotland and it has happened in our region.

Lads,
I was not raising my voice due to alcohol on Saturday night. I hadn't consumed a great deal over the day, I simply had had enough of the bickering and sniping from certain players over the previous 24 hours.
Tony keeps referring to who's job it is to run these events. Answer = no one.
None of us do this for a living or any personal benefit. I am a volunteer the same as Woody and Maggie etc.
I will stand down and let Tony McCallion organise and run the remaining events for this season. Good luck to him. Hopefully he'll do a better job than the last one he volunteered for (EDPL player of the season co-ordinator), guess who ended up doing all the work for that...

Exactly Raymond at the end of the day it was a glowing success and a fine advert for pool in region 4, it doesn't need tainted by anything petty. I believe Brad does an excellent job tbh and does it completey voluntary, I wouldn't want the task and don't believe many others would either. Lessons have been learnt and improvements will be made before the second tour.
Brad, Nathan and Tony had obvious issues with each other that night and alcohol fuelled the argument, simple as that. Lets all work together and give everyone a great season of pool and make our tour the best and something for other regions to envy and talk about.

Not wanting to appear out of place as a newbie on here, but just wanted to say I thought the day went brilliantly! Not got much to compare it to as it was my first ever event but thought it was a perfect venue and a fantastic setup! The food was also amazing! Spoke to a few other "first timers" too and they were loving it! Definately got the bug now and cannot wait until the next one! Not got a snowballs chance in hell of winning it (YET!!) but its all good craic!! Got knocked out in the first round after a good match sadly but got to witness some cracking ties and excellent pool playing! Congrats to Adam on winning, some achievement! and unlucky Pugs!! Well done to everyone involved behind the scenes too for all your efforts!!
Roll on April!!

I think as my first tour i really enjoyed it i thought adam wood and maggie deserve every credit for pretty much running the lot!the part at the end was an arguement between tony and nathan........then brad decided to join in and start shouting instead of asking tony to go outside and calm down THEN sayin to ME i was bein an idiot because i refused to play in the 'pub' downstairs after i was told by 2 people the table was shit after i played on that disgrace of a table that almost cost me a first round exit........yes its the same for every1 but thats not the point at all i remember my first pint as well brad.susan was out of order the way she spoke to adam and maggie when she should have been THANKING them for running the day like clockworki cannot believe the cheek of the way they were spoke too!bang out of order in my opinion and feel well bad for adam wood.also the boys in final to have to play through that i could have been in that final and id have been raging listening to that.brad cracking venue some cracking pool tables good staff but my hats off to woody and maggie for running the show.

No, that frame was awful from both of us and it required something stupid like that in order for it to get finished. The tap ins we both missed were laughable tbh!

like lads, as 1 o the keith boys who played on sat i would just like to say that we all had a cracking day. it was my first tour event and i thought it was a magic day, standanrd of pool was very high and it certainly proved that there is huge talent in this area of our country. congrats to adam on winning, watched a few of your games, very very impressed. i got beat in the first round by michael stepney, we had a good match and although it was 4-1 i had my chances. it gives me confidence that with some practice i can be better prepared for the next event. would just like to say that the venue, organisation, and general running of the comp worked great well done to everyone who was involved. looking forward to the next event.

A few of you might want to read this; www.allaboutbilliards.net/faq.html#5Particularly the section entitled 'does slate warp'. As I tried explaining on Saturday, millions of years of extreme compression cannot be undone in a couple of years, especially when the slate has been looked after and kept flat. However, playing games on a table which no one bothered to level, iron or brush will make the surface unlevel. When I eventually did it myself it ran perfectly fine. On sunday I realised the clips weren't down on the lid. Hence the supposedly dead cushion. In future no one will play any games on the Friday night until they have been levelled, brushed, ironed and inspected by someone who knows what they're talking about.
