Thats how I understand the minute rule aswell Tony. On this occasion it was a genuine misunderstanding. Mind you I have never seen that man O'Driscoll move so fast in all my life !! ;D

I'm glad this has been discussed lads as it was always a grey area for me. I agree with tony, it is coaching in the sense it would force the player to play instantly, rather than give away the time foul.
We've got an old fashinoned, hand wound stop clock but its ideal, fairly big so everyone can see it and its easily reset after the shot is played......i'd love to be able to recommend a website where it could be purchased but considering it was in the bar cellar for the past 15 years this may prove difficult!

Why not count down the whole minute out loud?

Would have to be from zero to sixty, counting in a descending order would prove challenging some wednesdays!

Calling rules for referees from WEPF site... "TIME FOULS: At 30 seconds, Call:- “Thirty Seconds”. This must be called on time even if the player appears to be about to stroke the shot. At Sixty Seconds, Call:- “Time Foul, Two Visits”. Add “Open Table” if no group established and it is the first time a player is in/takes control of the table." www.wepf.org/playrules.php?option=3

Simple system really. Weve not took out a clock yet this season, ive usually had a word with the opposing team letting them know that if time is wasted on one shot then the clock will come out even half way through a frame and we havnt had any problems yet.
Adam ... was that a joke?? haha
