Hi folks, I have had a great response last year with the Junior Tour. We had 26 players in total and are looking to grow this again next year. If you have any budding superstars in your circle of family and friends feel free to register them on here, by phone or email. See details below. Cheers, Adam.

Just thought I'd post here to say congrats to Woody's lad Keiran who has qualified for the Scotland Junior Squad for the Euros at the trial today down at the Bowl 2000.
Well done Keiran, that's NINE local players off to Malta now!

Yeah absolutely delighted for Kieran as he's only been playing for a few months, great achievement. Also hoping that James Duff (Lossiemouth) has qualified for the team also?
Enjoyed watching a great day of pool. Some fine young players who appeared to have a good knowledge of the rules and tactical play (unlike my good self). All good for the future.
On a down note there were alot of complaints about the tables i.e. pockets, cusions, speed of the cloth. I did notice alot of bounce outs from perfectly played shots and usually at key points of the game which cost players important points and possibly a chance of making the squad. A few of the players couldn't believe the state of the tables and that Scotland squad trials could even be played on them. Big John Murray was less than impressed. It's easy to say that it's the same for everyone but still not good enough eh?
All a bit concerning considering 2/3rds of next years tour events will be played at the Bowl.
Anyhow, just passing on comments from yesterdays majority.

On a down note there were alot of complaints about the tables i.e. pockets, cusions, speed of the cloth. I did notice alot of bounce outs from perfectly played shots DPT table by any chance ? I did notice at the last tour event I had a couple of bounce outs and that the pockets seemed to be tighter on the second and third tables but apart from that I thought the tables were fine. DPT tables are supplied with pockets which have a thick rubber ridge which runs along the back of the pocket and acts like a rubber cushion and throws perfectly good pots back out of the pocket. Same issues we had with the Tennants table until the pockets were changed which has helped to reduce the problem. Anyhows, more importantly well done to your lad Adam, he must be a chip of the old block eh ?? Going to get my lad playing soon, he is only 11 and has too many other things going on a the moment with football etc but the signs are there that he can play a bit. cheers

The table with the red cloth was the one most players were complaining about. A lot of bounce outs. Will be good to see a Ray Mac jnr joining the tour. I have another son aged 12yrs who will hopefully be playing next year so perhaps the two of them will meet up in a final one day!!

Aye Woody it is very disappointing. I watched your game with Teddy at the final tour event and both of you were let down by the cushions and pockets on the red table. Table 1 which me and Neil played on had three totally dead cushions . There was no point even thinking about using them to escape from snookers if the angle was large.
Me and Adam were speaking about the possibility of purchasing a number of competition tables for use on the Tour and at Finals Day etc. This would also enable us to play at other venues in the 2012 tour who currently don't have tables of their own.
Only a dream at the minute though as they're not exactly cheap!

Its a pity you didn't know someone with a trade account for a table supplier !

Are you trying to tell us something Ray? The President of the WEPF who was at the Interleague buys tables for the big tournaments and sells them on at a discount. Waiting on quotes from him before seeing whether it's feasible or not.

One lad who played in the junior tournament yesterday played for Scotland last year and was told that he would be given the captains job if he were to qualify this time round. He was allocated the red table in at least 7 of his 11 frames he played. He was totally gutted as you could imagine, bounce out after bounce out......he eventually bounced out too.
Most of the other tables appeared to have dead cushions and very slow running clothes.
BRING BACK THE FLANIGANS OLD TABLE!! Sorry folks I know it's a touchy subject and all that. lol.

I have sent an email to Bowl 2000 and linked in this thread for their perusal.
I agree that the tables need to be improved for next season and have said so to the Bowl 2000 management.
As regards bounce out after bounce out, the boy should have adapted his game. Cripes, thats we all have to do out at the Tennants!

As regards bounce out after bounce out, the boy should have adapted his game. Cripes, thats we all have to do out at the Tennants! Ahem, the Whiter table started off the whole bounce out saga, poor Stuart was almost in tears one night when it happened to him. Mind you its a wonder it happens in the Whiter as its difficult to hit the balls too hard given there are walls about 12" behind you ;D

I would like to thank all of the guys that turned up in a bid to secure places in the final of the Junior Pool Tournament, on Sunday. It was great to see so many guys turning up and trying to gain their place in the Scottish Junior Pool Team. I feel it necessary to extend my congratulations to the nine players that qualified for the Scotland team, and are now off to Malta to further their skill. These guys have excelled and are a credit to themselves as well as the North East of Scotland. Seeing the guys adapt their game according to conditions and facilities available to them shows both their dedication to the game and their determination to succeed also. No doubt a lot of practice and effort went in to this competition from all – and I would hope for the guys that weren’t perhaps so fortunate to make it in to the team, that they will continue, and progress their skill, so that in time, one day they may also be able to represent their country at the sport. Having noted that the nine lads are off to Malta to continue their game, and understanding that this expedition is going to come at a cost – I would like to propose a fundraising event in our establishment at some point to help raise funds for the trip. If you would be interested in such an event, and use of some of the facilities here at Bowl 2000 – please do not hesitate to get in touch, and we can arrange something. Once again we would like to reiterate how proud we are of all that qualified for the Scotland team in our establishment on Sunday.

Hi folks,
In collaboration with Bowl 2000 we have arranged a sponsored 'poolathon' that the junior pool players will complete. This is designed to raise funds for Region 4 player's travel expenses.
Their challenge is to simply play pool without stopping for 7 hours! The 'poolathon' is arranged for Sunday 9th Jan 2011 at Bowl 2000.
I am also going to run a speedpool table at 50p a shot with the lowest time winning a prize (hopefully a cue).
Ideally, I would like to run raffles at the first 2 tour events so if anyone that has any ideas for prizes etc they should contact me. I feel that this is also a good way to raise funds.
Any other ideas are most welcome, so fire away!
Cheers,
Adam.

"Their challenge is to simply play pool without stopping for 7 hours!" Sounds like a Saturday afternoon in the Bonnie Earl!
Speed pool sounds good, you might get 50p off Tony again!

The difference is that these guys are actually talented and 1 frame will not last 7 hours. Unlike your feeble attempts at the Bonnie Earl... ;D

This sounds excellent i planned this myself last year to raise funds for something else. We planned to do a 24hour poolathon with live online streaming but couldnt get an overnight venue. Is this for junior players only or the qualifiers? Id def be up for this.

I am hoping to raise some money for all qualifiers and have applied for funding for everyone that has qualified. This Poolathon is for juniors but there is nothing to stop you from arranging a separate one for adult qualifiers!
The proceeds of the raffles will be spread out amongst all qualifiers though. Any other fund raising ideas are most welcome!

Just wanted to say that Event 1 was an excellent day of pool. 2 new players contested the final with Jack Andrew overcoming Findlay Anderson in the final.
Safe to say we have some cracking wee players coming through!

Glad to see Jack took my advice to enter the junior tour - he is some player and has been for some time. He actually beat Stuart in our annual Xmas competition about 3 years ago, even had the nerve to eight ball him in one frame ! Definitly one for the future.
